Let me begin by saying this: I think it’s possible for anyone to achieve migraine freedom.
As I’ve discussed elsewhere, the evidence indicates that migraines are a disease of civilization, meaning they only rear their heads when awakened by modern diets and lifestyles. While genetic susceptibilities undoubtedly exist, such predispositions are neither necessary nor sufficient for bringing the migraine beast into your life.
But that’s not to say that getting from wherever you are now to migraine freedom is easy. And what all is required to get you from where you are now to where you want to be will depend on a great many factors – factors that in total are part of the unique individual that you are.
And one of those factors that determines your road ahead is where you are on the Migraine Freedom Timeline, a concept that I think will be immensely useful to anyone courageous enough to try to forge their path to migraine freedom.
“How do you eat an elephant? One bite at a time.”
My primary mission with the book, and my primary mission with the Migrai-Neverland community, is to provide you with the tools and resources you need to discover and proceed down your own freedom path.
But it’s important to remember that this is a process. A process that involves a step by step progression to your ultimate destination, with several hurdles that must be cleared along the way. Too much time spent focusing on the ultimate destination, and what must be done to get there, and you risk feeling overwhelmed and defeated.
Just as you don’t eat an elephant in one giant bite, you don’t reach migraine freedom in one giant step.
Your primary objective, then, is to make consistent forward progress along the timeline, focusing your efforts not on the final destination, but on the next step that will move you forwards on the timeline.
Not only does doing so transform the journey from something overwhelming to something manageable, it also helps you better understand what needs to happen when, as knowing where you are in the timeline helps to frame where your energies are best spent, and the actions that will give you the best bang for your buck.
Many of the steps along the timeline will apply to any migraineur trying to reach migraine zero. Others, however, will be individual, specific to you and your situation. And the best person to figure out what those specific steps are?
You.
But I think the Migraine Miracle Timeline will go a long way towards helping you customize your own plan.
There’s also a very important idea embedded into the concept of the timeline, a mindset shift that I think is critical for getting where you want to be.
With the timeline, all that matters is where you are now, where you want to be, and the path that connects those two places. That path exists, it’s just a matter of finding it.
Furthermore, you needn’t see the entire path to freedom from where you sit now, you only need to take the very next step.
Too often I see patients become their own worst enemies, sabotaging themselves with recurring and destructive thought patterns: “I’m an exception”, “what if this doesn’t work for me?”, etc. I know that these thoughts ALWAYS become self fulfilling prophecies.
To get to migraine freedom, you must be tenacious. You must be able persist, to stay the course in spite of things that can come along to derail you. Only the right mindset will allow this to happen.
The easy road is popping a pill and hoping for the best. I’m not offering the easy road. A better road, for sure, but not an easy one.
So take a look at the Migraine Freedom Timeline below. What phase are you in?
In upcoming posts, I’ll be discussing how you can use this information for determining the most important steps to take next.
For those inside the Migrai-Neverland community, we have a section of the forum devoted entirely to discussing the timeline and how you can best use this information to customize your own path to freedom.
